Zero pay raise for the CEO

Zero pay raise for the CEO who is bad at Math

See how the CEO who’s bad at Math calls his HR department for a 0 pay raise in his salary saying, “That’s right, I’ve decided to give myself zero pay raise this year.” And he has cleverly done his homework on the discussion board before applying for the raise.

Mathemagic: Doing instant multiplication!

Let’s begin with one of the favorite feats of mental math – how to multiply, in your head, any 2-digit number by eleven. It’s very easy once you know the secret. Consider the problem:

32 X 11

To solve this problem, simply add the digits, 3 + 2 = 5, put the 5 between 3 and the 2, and there is your answer:

352

What could be easier? Now you try:

53 X 11

Since 5 + 3 = 8, your answer is simply

583

One more. Without looking at the answer or writing anything down, what is

81 x 11?

Did you get 891? Congratulations!

How to find divisibility of a number #1

Kids may encounter times when they have to see whether a number is divisible by any number. Such a situation may also arise in exams when the students or kids (sometimes even their parents) may use the following tactics to find out if a given number is divisibly by any number:

  • Divisibility by 1
All numbers are divisible by 1. A situation to divide a number by 1 will never arise.
  • Divisibility by 2
Any number that ends with 2,4,6,8 or 0 is divisible by 2.
Any number that is divisible by 4,6,8 or 0 is divisible by 2.
All even numbers are divisible by 2.
  • Divisibility by 3
If the sum of all of the digits in a number is divisible by 3 then the number is also divisible by 3.
  • Divisibility by 4
Any number that ends with 00 is divisible by 4.
Any number whose last two digits are divisible by 4 is divisible by 4.
  • Divisibility by 5
Any number that ends with 0 or 5 is divisible by 5.

The applications of mathematics

Mathematics has always been the subject of question both for parents & students. Students just want their parents, friends or well-wishers to their math homework for them. Sometimes, students don’t even hesitate in employing some online or offline tutor to get their homework done while many parents still call their friends & colleages and sometimes even browse over the internet to find the solutions to the questions of their wards.

As John Louis von Neumann has rightly put it, “If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is”. Mathematics has helped enormously in the evolution of mankind and without it our lives would have been dumb. From the calculation of the money we have to calculating the distance between different planets & stars, mathematics finds its application everywhere. Sometimes parents are heard encouraging their wards for learning math saying, “If You Don’t Learn Math, How Would You Calculate Your Wealth”. It’s irony however that even parents have been fearful of mathematics.
